Fall into place? Never did.
I'm writing this post now because I can't sleep and I'll start working tomorrow for BDO Alba Romeo and Co.. I have never thought of working for BDO. I haven't even heard of it till I passed the CPA exam. I have always wanted to work for Deloitte and Deloitte only. But it seems that I wasn't cut for their criteria because I was never the normal kind of Accountancy student anyway.
All that I have posted here before were academic related. But since my last blog post, I'll start posting on how it really is when you become a CPA. I have always thought that life will just fall into places once I pass the board exam. My friends thought so too. Luckily for them they got accepted at the Big 4. I did apply for 6 big firms in the country. All invited me for an exam and interview except for SGV. I never wanted to work for SGV anyway because everybody wants it and I want to want a different thing. Yes, I experienced walking under the heat of the sun and the cold showers of the rain, in heels, flats, and slippers hopping from one interview or exam to another. The HR's belonged in my "I hate" list but you I know they just do their job and they do it very well. Especially with making you expect and not replying to you when you follow up.
Though I am a CPA, and my rating's not bad actually. I got higher than 80% which was my goal since I have heard that the Big 4 requires it. But not really. Your TOR still does most of the work so does your resume and achievements. You do have to be a good leader with experience so that you can give a huge impact to the interviewers, HRs and Partners of CPA Firms. They do require leadership skills.
With all the interviews and exams I took I did finally got the perfect mix of what they want. But sadly, there is no vacancy. How awful. I recommend you look for a job immediately after passing the board in May or October or before the busy season preferrably January to April.
I delayed the acceptance of BDO's job offer because I was waiting for others. In the end I still ended up with BDO. The offer is very disappointing and frankly speaking I am bit less happy to come to work tomorrow. I don't know what lies ahead but I'm sure God has the best plans for me. Wish me luck!
