Threats to Compliance with Fundamental Principles in Auditing

Hello dear readers, what I am writing in this blog is not only helpful to accounting students, but also to other readers who are interested about accounting. Accounting is a broad topic. Auditing is under this and I am going to share to you what are the threats to compliance with fundamental principles when doing an audit.

Compliance with the fundamental principles may potentially be threatened by a broad range of circumstances. Many threats fall into the following categories:

1. Self-interest
2. Self-review
3. Advocacy
4. Familiarity
5. Intimidation

Familiarity Threat in Auditing

Familiarity threat occurs when by virtue of a close relationship with a client, its directors, officers, or employees, a firm or a member of the engagement team becomes too sympathetic to the client's interest. Officially a Seasoned Senior Audit Associate

The past year has been quite dramatic. Just like in the accountancy environment in college, people in the accounting environment can be quite competitive. I had been very passive in terms of academic competition since I started high school. I just did not care anymore about grades or ranking. I passed the CPA board exam with the belief that I just had to compete with my own limits and surpass it.  I have learned that there's also competition in the work environment.
