Zero Experience Junior Auditor on the Job

I wasn't excited to go to work that Monday. I was there 30 minutes earlier than the time I was suppose to report. When I arrived the HR wasn't there yet. There was suppose to be someone who will start with me that day but he arrived late. His name is Kevin. The HR gave me an orientation about the company and all and Kevin arrived after the orientation. The HR was suppose to give a tour of the office but I said that I'll just wait for Kevin's orientation to finish and he can give as both a tour of the office, and so that's what happened.

After that, we were left at the juniors' area where auditors face their laptops and I had no idea what they're doing. So we introduced ourselves and Sir Derek talked to us. There was also another new hire who started coming to office a week before us, her name is Ram for Ramona. Haha! Sorry Ram. Anyway, Ram was holding the very thick auditing manual and I wondered if she was reading it. I have always thought that I should give a different impression at work since it is going to be a new environment for me. I'd like to behave as lady like as I can, nice and simple. But, well, nothing of that happened. I was the same self I was and still am.

For two days we didn't have anything to do since we didn't have laptops to work with. On the third day however we were lent by the IT department three laptops one for each of us but mine was broken so I had to borrow someone else's who left her laptop in the office. We started taking the E-learning auditor stuff and earned certificates for each topic. Those certificates will be credited to our CPD requirements, they said. That was it for our first week.

Alas! Monday came and it was our first assignment to work for a client. We have no idea what to do but we were told to make narratives about the clients system of procedures and policies. Of course, we were given samples to base from. Writing narratives was hard for me. You always have to bear in mind questions of who, when, what, where and how so that you'll have an idea on how to make your narrative. I managed to finish the narratives and other requirements for two cycles. Now, I'm doing test of details which I found easier to do.

Remember those days under Auditing Theory where you had to identify what kind of assertion is being identified? Yes, you have to apply it here. After understanding the clients business, you have to analyze what you have written and how it will affect the audit. Two weeks have passed and I have been wishing I had listened more during my undergrad days. Even my board rating did not help either. Oh well, at least I have Google as my friend, when you become a CPA you have access to Google and other possible references, unlike when you take exams during undergrad days where you had to squeeze everything out from your poor, pitiful brain, well mine was, I don't know with yours.

Before, I have always wanted to become a CPA. Now, I'm starting to ask myself what kind of path I have taken. The long hours of office works where you do not know if you'll get compensated for staying longer or not, unhealthy eating, and other non healthy lifestyle, I have no idea what I'm doing or where I'm heading. But for now, I still have three other test of details to do. Till next time.
